TechStart
has been an integral part of TBTF's mission over the years. We've
looked for ways to give back and equip the at-risk kids in our community
to pursue education and careers in STEM. Here are a couple of the
initiatives we're currently working on.
Computer*ific
Through
our Computer*ific Program, we've outfitted 26 Boys and Girls' Clubs
with state-of-the-art computer labs with 235 computer stations. More
than 800 youth in Tampa Bay use these stations on a daily basis. For a
lot of these kids, this is their only access to computers every day.
We've also hired a coordinator to lead the staff in integrating
technology into all areas of their programming. By making technology
accessible and fun we are hoping to shape the future students and
eventual workforce for our region into one that is focused on technology
and innovative thinking.
Graciously,
in 2010, TechStart was awarded the Boys and Girls Clubs Corporate Partner of
the Year. We are honored to work with this organization and look
forward to even greater things that we can accomplish together for the
kids of Tampa Bay.
Scholarships
Since
our inception, and working in partnership with the Hillsborough and
Pinellas County Education Foundations, we've awarded over 40
scholarships for college. These funds allow the students to attend
schools in the region in the Florida Pre-Paid Scholarship program. We've
maximized donor gifts with a dollar for dollar match by the State of
Florida.
We
want to see every kid in Tampa Bay to have access to the best STEM
career and educational programming.
